24 Volt Doorbells or Transmitters

Do you live in a large house and have difficulty hearing chimes in a house?  If you have a wired doorbell system, a 24 volt doorbells or a 24 volt transformer may be the answer to your problem.  One reason people have difficulty hearing chimes throughout the house is that the extra long wires experience a drop in voltage.  An upgrade from an 8 or 16 volt transformer to a 24 volt transmitter can help counteract the drop in voltage.

Some may be concerned about this increase in voltage as most doorbell units currently use 16 volts.  However, one should remember that an increase to 24 volts is relatively small increase and is prevalent in a large number of doorbell systems.  Plus, doorbell systems voltage are already very low when compared with other electrical wiring.  This means any risk of fire remains a small one at best.

24 volt doorbells or transformers are purchased by a number of different manufacturers.  This includes Carlon/ Dimango, Nutone.  The 24 volt transformers are slightly more expensive than their 16 volt counterparts.  For instance, the price for basic models ranges from $25 to $30 for 24 volt doorbells and the same product for 16 volts ranges from $15 to $20.  In addition, you can purchase transformers that are multifunctional by using 8, 16, or 24 volt options.  There prices tend to be comparable to 16 volt models.

All and all, 24 volt doorbells provide you with another option to improve signal strength and sound quality.  With the cost of only a few more dollars, they are worth a try to see if they can solve your doorbell hearing problems.
