Wireless Doorbell
Intercom
The
Wireless Doorbell Intercom has many of the same benefits of
a wireless doorbell. It is relatively inexpensive,
provides flexibility in location choices, offers
portability, easy installation, and does not require any
wiring. In
addition, it has the added benefits of intercom systems
which offer more convenience and
safety.
Range
One
additional advantage of wireless doorbell intercoms over
wireless doorbells is an extended
range. A number
of models extend up to 1500 ft and some up to 3000
ft. In
addition, the can have up to five channels which allows
for more convenience in your
calls.
Prices
These wireless intercoms have a broad
range in prices of $30 up to $150. In addition, video intercoms fall
into the price range of $150 to $400. Common manufacturers of wireless
intercoms include Westinghouse, Reporter, Improvements,
AC&NC, Sonic, Greyfox, Nutone, and
Oracle. Westinghouse doorbell intercoms are
especially popular.
Safety &
Convenience
Wireless Doorbell intercoms give
homeowners the ability to answer the door without ever
having to open it. For the elderly and disabled this is
a welcome addition. However, all people can benefit from
this added convenience as you can check on the door and the
other rooms in the house without ever leaving your
room. This
convenience saves people time and is greater for checking in
on the children or
babies.
Advantages
Compared To Wired Doorbell
Intercoms
There are also a few advantages of
wireless doorbell intercoms over wired
versions. The
three main ones are:
(1) No wires and an easier
installation. In addition, it works great when you
cannot use a wired doorbell
intercom.
(2) Flexibility in
locations. It is easy to move a wireless
doorbell intercom around the house because of no
wires. This means
you can move the intercom around the house to accommodate
changes in taste or
need.
(3) Portability of the complete
system. Since there is no wiring, it is much
easier to take the whole system with you when you
move. Obviously,
this is much harder with a wired doorbell intercom
system.
Disadvantages
Compared To Wired Doorbell
Intercoms
In
an effort of full disclosure, wireless doorbell intercoms do
have some disadvantages as well. The two main concerns
are:
(1) Invasion of
Privacy.
Some wireless
doorbell intercoms can be picked up by other external
wireless devices if they are on the same
frequency. These other wireless devices
could be baby monitors, scanners, and other wireless
intercoms. Naturally, this will be more of
an issue in the city where there are more competing
wireless devices.
(2) Signal strength. As with any wireless system, the
current levels of quality are not as good as wired
units. Although
the gap is likely to decrease with improved technology,
currently there can be some discrepancy in sound quality and
signal strength at
times.
Overall, the wireless doorbell intercom
offers many benefits. Whether it is a fit for your home or
not, will turn largely on your needs and your comfort level
with its disadvantages. With this said, a large number of
homes have benefited by the use of this installation of this
device.
